Flying High during Fukushima's good times

This photo really touches my heart…Angie and I had only been dating a couple months when we decided to do a road trip up to Fukushima and Sendai. The waves along the north east coast of Japan are awesome, lack of people make it such a great place to go surf. We threw the dogs, tent and my cameras in the back of the car and set off for a week following a typhoon swell that started in Chiba. We got lucky and had great waves all along the coast, catching up with locals we hadn’t seen in years.

Since that trip almost 5 years ago, I’d been back to the area shooting for the Japan pro surf tour a number of times but unfortunately Angie hadn’t been back. Now I’m afraid she may never get to surf Fukushima again…

The locals are heartbroken as to what has happened to their ocean, their waves, their livelihoods. Please don’t forget them. Second Harvest is an awesome charity that has been getting food and deliveries to the hardest hit zones from the disaster. Please donate HERE

But if you are a surfer and really want to help out directly to the surfers who lost everything in the tsunami, please send me or Angie an email at info@surferseyes.com and we can help you send goods direct to those who needs them. I have already been up to Fukushima and Sendai twice earlier this year delivering boards, wetsuits, wax and other surf goods. They say they shouldn’t surf the water for 30 years because of radiation…but surfer’s can’t stay out of the water can they…let’s support them in anyway we can.

Peace,

Kuni
